Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN)
Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN) was established in 1997 to fund projects that are eligible under the Landfill Communities Fund (formerly the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme). WREN receives its funding from the landfill tax credits incurred by WRG.
Many community projects in Wakefield and the wider West Yorkshire area have benefited from landfill tax credits distributed by WREN. In the last five years, £1.3million has been provided to community projects within a 10-mile radius of Welbeck.
Examples in the Normanton area include:
- £40K grant towards the restoration of Haw Hill Park Pond (pictured above) - a Victorian ornamental pond identified for renovation by The Friends of Haw Hill Park and Wakefield Metropolitan District Council.
- £50K towards the refurbishment of Normanton Methodist Church, which has now been transformed into a multi purpose community facility as well as place of worship.
- £20K grant to Normanton Town Council for the Walnut Drive Play Area, which has been rebuilt with new equipment, safer flooring and secure fencing to be extra safe for toddlers and young children.
- £21K grant towards improved access to St John the Baptist Church in Normanton.
