Environmental Policy
Health and Safety Policy

Environmental Policy

Waste Recycling Group is one of the leading waste management services and energy recovery companies in the UK. Accordingly we are committed to achieving class-leading performance throughout all aspects of our business. Through innovation, service, expertise and trained competences we are committed to meeting demanding regulatory and stakeholder requirements and to wherever possible, assist our customers in meeting the waste management strategies and targets incumbent upon them.

We recognise the demands of our stakeholders to consider and to protect the environment on local, regional and potentially global scales, and their expectations for us to take active measures to adapt our operations to take account of energy efficiency and predicted climate change effects.

Compliance with environmental legislation - and other requirements to which we subscribe - which is pertinent to the activities covered by the scope of our EMS, is an integral requirement of this policy, together with thorough evaluation of risks posed by those activities.

The board will review environmental performance and risk and ensure that adequate resource is directed towards meeting targets and objectives so as to improve compliance and prevent pollution.

WRG is committed to engaging with our neighbours, customers and regulators to better understand their requirements or concerns. We will communicate with these stakeholders in accordance with our 'Values and Behaviours', and will publish annual reports containing our key corporate performance indicators.

Policy drivers
  • Pursue continual improvements in environmental performance and business effectiveness through the operation of an externally-certified EMS.
  • Set Objectives and Targets for the business to be reviewed annually to reflect specific measures to improve environmental performance.
  • Identify environmental risks and use best practices, technological innovation and due diligence to reduce them.
  • Promote waste recycling and recovery, and endeavour to produce products and renewable energy to help displace non-sustainable natural resources.
  • Influence the behaviours of our suppliers and our contractors through active selection of those with good environmental credentials.
  • Enact energy efficiency objectives and measure resource consumption to meet improvement targets.
  • Consider the potential impact of our operations on climate change potential by taking active measures on monitoring and reporting carbon emissions.
  • Use employee or stakeholder feedback to reassess policy and performance in light of changed regulatory, environmental, social or ethical requirements.
WRG operates an Environmental Management System which will ensure that the objectives and commitments set out in this Policy are documented, implemented and maintained. The Policy and the management system are reviewed regularly to ensure that they are current and effective and continue to reflect the aspirations and objectives of the business.

"This policy reflects my expectation for the performance and attitudes of our business. The board and myself will encourage and support our employees in its delivery."

Health & Safety Policy

The Waste Recycling Group is committed to achieving high performance throughout the business. We believe that all employees have a right to work in a safe and healthy environment and we intend to carry out our business without putting employee's, or our visitors, health or physical well being at risk. The management of health & safety is an integral part of this with every individual having a responsibility to ensure their own safety and that of their colleagues. The board expects all employees to recognise and act upon this in all their dealings whilst representing the business.

Statement of Intent

Further to the above strategy, and the need to ensure compliance with all relevant H&S legislation, the Waste Recycling Group will pay particular attention to the provision of:
  • A healthy working environment;
  • A safe place in which to work with safe means of access and egress;
  • Suitable and sufficient information, instruction, training and supervision to enable staff to comply with this H&S policy;
  • Safe plant, equipment and systems of work;
  • Arrangements for the safe use, handling, storage and transport of articles, materials and substances;
  • Appropriate management procedures and consultative arrangements to monitor and audit compliance with this H&S policy
  • Appropriate arrangements to assess and control the risks associated with work activities undertaken at WRG premises or by WRG personnel;
  • Appropriate procurement policies to ensure that only competent contractors and suppliers are engaged by WRG
  • To seek to continuously improve and assist in the implementation of the H&S policy, utilising external support as appropriate and seeking advice from appointed competent personnel.
  • A balanced, devolved responsibility for health & safety from the board through to appropriate levels and individuals within the organisation
The ultimate responsibility for health & safety lies with the Waste Recycling Group Chief Executive who will ensure that it is given equal priority with other business drivers. Employees are reminded that adherence to this policy is a condition of employment.
