About Welbeck Landfill Site

Welbeck landfill site is located approximately two kilometres to the east of the centre of Wakefield on the western side of the River Calder.

As the primary waste disposal facility for the West Yorkshire region, Welbeck accepts non hazardous municipal waste from the Wakefield, Kirklees, Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale and Barnsley areas. Commercial waste from shops and businesses, such as packaging, is also accepted at the site. Approximately 600,000 tonnes of waste is safely and effectively disposed of at Welbeck each year. In addition, the site has a composting facility that processes 10,000 tonnes of green waste per year.

The landfill operations at Welbeck are managed by Welbeck Waste Management Limited (WWML), a subsidiary of Waste Recycling Group Ltd (WRG), which is one of the UK's leading waste management and energy recovery companies. WRG is owned by the international construction and environmental services group, Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC). For more information on WRG, please visit www.wrg.co.uk.
