About Waste Recycling Group
Managing waste, recovering energy - together
Waste Recycling Group is one of the leading waste management
services and energy recovery companies in the UK. Each year we receive,
recycle and dispose of around 13million tonnes of household, commercial
and industrial waste. We also generate energy from waste - thereby
contributing significantly to the Government's efforts to reduce
reliance on fossil fuels.
The profile of the UK's waste
management industry has never been higher, the pressures on local
authorities and the economy to reduce waste and maximise re-use and
recovery, never greater. Through innovation, service and expertise -
cornerstones of the Company's approach - Waste Recycling Group is
committed to working with our local authority partners and industry
customers to respond to often complex and far-reaching waste management
strategies, to react to increased regulation from the UK and Europe, and
to meet demanding waste management targets.
Our service offering covers:
Landfill Disposal
The safe
disposal of waste to landfill has been a mainstay of UK waste management
practice for many years and will continue to underpin the sector's
activities. However there is a growing acknowledgement that the balance
between landfill disposal and existing and new forms of waste treatment
has to change. Waste Recycling Group is helping our customers to make
this change and, over time, more and more waste will be recycled,
re-used or have value extracted from it through the recovery of energy.
Through this period of change Waste Recycling Group is committed to
providing a cost-effective landfill disposal service for residual waste
in a safe and responsible manner.
Energy Recovery
Recognising and recovering the potential value that is locked up in the waste that we generate is important in achieving sustainability and driving waste higher up the hierarchy. Waste Recycling Group is operating and developing facilities to capture energy from waste by safe and effective thermal processes - generating steam for combined heat and power and electricity for local grid networks.
Waste Treatment
The
Company has a dedicated business able to respond to the needs of its
commercial customers for the treatment of hazardous and problematic
wastes. This is a growing area of interest as a result of the current
changes to the UK's approach to the management of hazardous wastes
following the implementation of the EU Landfill Directive.
Reception and Recycling
The Company manages a network of household waste recycling sites on behalf of our local authority customers. The sites are the first port of call for members of the public in recycling and disposing of bulky items and household waste and are well used and cost effective elements of a local authority's waste management strategy. The Company's integrated waste management capability also includes the recovery of important recyclable materials such as glass, paper and metals from the household waste stream to assist local authorities in meeting government targets. We work with customers to find best value integrated solutions which put the delivery of recycling and landfill diversion targets at the heart of waste management options. Waste Recycling Group has taken a lead in the composting of green garden waste which is making an increasingly important contribution to the tough diversion targets which have been set for local authorities and the Country as a whole.

Compost
The compost produced finds a variety of end users; restoration of our own landfill sites, some is returned to our local authority partners, and, increasingly it is used for the manufacture of top quality soils and bagged compost for the retail sector.
Methods of composting; Windrow composting, Pod composting, In-vessel systems.
