The proposed EfW facility on the site of the former Brunner Mond Power Station will be capable of treating up to 350,000 tonnes of Cheshire's waste every year and will generate heat and power by recovering energy from the waste treated.
Plans for the proposed new facility were first announced by WRG in August 2007 and the first stage of a public consultation exercise took place during October and November. WRG are continuing with their technical, environmental and design work on the scheme and hope to submit a planning application later this Spring. A further round of public consultation is planned prior to the submission of the application.
The site has been idenfited as a suitable location for a waste treatment facility by Cheshire County Council in its recently adopted Waste Local Plan. The Waste Local Plan establishes policies and identifies sites for waste treatment facilities to help the county acheive a more sustainable approach to managing its waste.
