SALT END

WRG is bringing forward proposals to redevelop vacant industrial land at Salt End.

The proposals include:

  • a facility to collect together up to 38,000 tonnes a year of paper, glass and metal separated by householders at home and collected by the councils through kerbside recycling schemes. This will be sent on for further reprocessing and will eventually be used to make recycled products
  • a facility to generate electricity, through proven Energy from Waste technology for rubbish which has not been recycled, is also proposed.

You can find out more about Energy from Waste by going to the 'Recovering Energy' page and downloading the case study there.

A Local Liaison Group has been established to provide an opportunity for interested parties to discuss issues relating to the construction and operation of the waste management facility at Salt End, Hull.

The Group will meet regularly during the lifetime of the facility and is made up of local elected members and officials from Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council; local community representatives; the Environment Agency; and representatives from WRG.

Membership of the Group is limited and there are currently two vacancies for community representatives from the Hull City Council area.  If you are a resident of Hull and are interested in becoming a member of the Group, please contact chris.peach@hullcc.gov.uk

All of the places on the Group for community representatives from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council area are currently taken.  If you are a resident of East Riding of Yorkshire Council and would like to be placed on the waiting list to join the Group, please contact andy.wainwright@eastriding.gov.uk

The first meeting of the Group was held on 9th September 2009.  The next meeting of the Group will take place on Wednesday 17th March 2010.  The Agenda for this meeting is available to view below.
