RECOVERING ENERGY

Waste which is not recycled under Target 45+ will be converted into green energy, providing the energy equivalent to the energy needs of about 30,000 households.

By using Energy from Waste technology for waste left after recycling and composting WRG will help to reduce reliance on landfiill and will generate green energy.

Energy from Waste is a proven process which can work to the highest environmental standards.  Around 9% of the UKs household waste is already reused for Energy from Waste.   In Denmark this figure is as high a 58% .

Recovering energy from waste after recycling and composting provides a sustainable alternative to landfill and, in Hull and East Riding, will help to avoid potential fines of up to £150 per tonne for landfill.

WRG is bringing forward proposals for a new Energy from Waste facility at Salt End.  The facility will use modern technology with a proven track record and will be able to manage up to 240,000 tonnes a year of waste left after recycling and composting.  The facility will be scaled to meet the needs of Hull and East Riding alone and will not accept waste from anywhere else.

You can find out more about the Energy from Waste proposals by downloading the leaflets on the Salt End page of this site.   For more general information on Energy from Waste download the Enviros report below.
