The Proposals
WRG is bringing forward proposals to reclaim and restore the former colliery Tip and Void.
The proposals include:
- Restoration of the derelict, former colliery site to pasture, woodlands and wetlands, including areas of public access
- Restoration of Bentinck tip using around 1.5 million cubic metres of compost and recycled inert materials (soils, rubble, etc.) - taking around 10 years (at 150,000 cubic metres a year)
- Reclamation of Bentinck void by landfilling around 4 million cubic metres of non-hazardous (mostly household) waste over 10-12 years (at around 400,000 cubic metres a year)
- Reclamation of land around the tip and void using reclaimed soils and/or compost
- A barn-style facility to mature compost (up to 22,000 tonnes year) brought in from other waste treatment facilities for use in restoration
- A new access road running parallel to the M1, linking the site directly to the A608, to avoid using local roads
- A new weighbridge, site office and environmental management infrastructure to support the operations.
